Mildbraed was appointed Keeper at the Berlin Botanical Museum (1913). In 1943 his house and his main collection of specimens in Berlin Botanical Museum were destroyed during bombing in the Second World War. Some Mildbraed material is extant at B, for example types of Loranthaceae, and duplicate material including isotypes can be found at a number of herbaria. The genera Mildbraedia Pax, Mildbraediochloa Butzin and Mildbraediodendron Harms were named in his honour.
