Biography
German pharmacist and botanist. August Loher was born at Simbach in Bavaria but lived from 1889 in the Philippines, where he made a living as a wholesale pharmaceutical dealer. He spent much of his spare time collecting plants. As well as the dried material he sent to herbaria, Loher sent living orchids to the botanic garden in Munich. He authored a few papers on Philippine plants and several were named after him.
