Biography
Dutch botanist. Dr Leeuwenberg received his PhD from Utrecht University in 1958 for his work on the Gesneriaceae of Guiana. He spent his entire teaching and research career at Wageningen University, except for a few years when he lived with his family in Cameroon, specializing in the Gesneriaceae, Loganiaceae and Apocynaceae which he collected in Africa, Asia, and South America. Although officially retired in 1995, he carried on research until 2002. His collection numbers, which also include tropical flowering plants, exceed 14,800.
