Biography
American forest pathologist and specialist in Viscaceae. Frank Goode Hawksworth was born in Fresno, California, and worked for the Rocky Mountain Forest and Range Experiment Station in Fort Collins, Colorado. He authored over 275 articles and reports, the majority of them concerned with dwarf mistletoes, which he collected extensively. On one occasion, in 1963, he and co-collector Delbert Wiens discovered five new species of Arceuthobium in a single day between Durango and El Salto, Mexico. He is commemorated by a dwarf mistletoe from Belize, Arceuthobium hawksworthii Wiens & C.G. Shaw bis; Phoradendron hawksworthii Wiens, a mistletoe parasite of juniper in western Texas; and the insect Frankliniella hawksworthii, a species of thrips associated exclusively with dwarf mistletoes.
