Biography
Chilean chemist and botanist from Limache who published the first complete revision of the genus Alstroemeria for Chile. Plants named after him include Alstroemeria garaventae Ehr. Bayer, Cardamine garaventae O.E. Schulz and the cactus Horridocactus garaventae F. Ritter (= Eriosyce garaventae (F. Ritter) Katt.). In 1964 he was instrumental in the creation of the Parque Nacional La Campana in Chile, the only known location for the endemic Eriosyce garaventae.
