Biography
Attached from 1883 to the Mission d'Exploration Scientifique de la Tunisie, Jean Barratte collected extensively in the north of Tunisia. He was secretary to Cosson and an assistant to Kralik, the curator of Cosson's herbarium, whom he later succeeded. He continued as curator until the death of Durand, Cosson's son-in-law. He is commemorated by Echium barrattei Coincy and Silene barrattei Murb.
