Biography
Swiss philanthropist and botanist who married the daughter of P.E. Boissier, later changing his surname to Barbey-Boissier following a contemporary Swiss tradition for adding a wife's surname on marriage. He was given the herbarium of P.E. Boissier and later gave both this herbarium and his own to G. The genera Barbeya Schweinf. and Barbeyella Meyl. were named in his honour. Material at BM from Barbey's herbarium mainly comprises duplicate specimens of P.H.W. Taubert from Cyrenaica.
