Information
Very similar to M. capensis, but with leaf blades rhombic-ovate to triangular-ovate, more gradually acuminate at the apex, cuneate or rounded at the base, not more than 15 × 10 cm, and generally somewhat glaucous beneath; and with inflorescence axes more obviously zigzag towards the apex, and the distal bracts of the male flowers ± entire.

Submontane mixed evergreen forest, in subcanopy and on forest margins, also in gullies by stream sides

Doubtfully distinct from M. capensis, with which it intergrades.Armitage 33/55 in GHS 53659 (PRE; SRGH) from Zimbabwe (E) and Chase 6837 (K; SRGH) from Mozambique (MS) are intermediate in most respects between the two.However, I have refrained from following Friis & Gilbert (1986) in uniting them since most collections are readily assignable to one or the other.
