Information
Plant entirely glabrous, or inflorescence axes and calyx tubes spreading pilose.
Habitat
Widespread in grassland and open woodland, often on dambo margins where it usually occurs with Parinari dwarf woodland, also in mixed woodlands with Burkea and Terminalia, and in Cryptosepalum woodland on Kalahari Sand

Notes
Most material of this species is entirely glabrous ('var. oatesii') but some specimens have hairy inflorescence axes and ovaries, and many intermediates occur. The fruit is edible.
