Distribution (external)

Zaire
Angola
Notes
The material from all areas save Mozambique having less spreading stems, shorter calyx lobes and mostly very hairy peduncles was suggested by me (F.T.E.A., Rubiaceae 1:113 (1976)) as possibly a distinct subspecies but I have preferred to take a wide view. The species as a whole occurs from Guinea Bissau to Angola, Zaire, Sudan, Central African Republic, East and South-central Africa with subsp. involucrata (Hiern) Verdc. in Sudan, Uganda, Zaire and perhaps Angola and subsp. obvallata in W. Africa. The calyx lobe characters are too inconstant to maintain the three reported species formerly always accepted.
