Notes
The outside of the sepals and petals as well as the submerged undersides of the leaves, pedicels, petioles etc. are covered with minute purplish glandular hairs. These may be the hairs which secrete the mucilage. The original description of this species gives neither collector nor country of origin but the type is in the Schreber collection which is in the Botanische Staatssammlung, Munich, and Dr. Merxmüller, the Director of that institution, tells me that it bears the following information in Schreber’s own hand: Floyd No. 1 (presumably the collector), a Latin description and the type locality \"Hope in N. Jersey\".
