Notes
Merges with var. whytei on the Nyika Plateau.D. hockii does not seem distinguishable from this. Richards 13251 (Zambia, Mbala Distr., fl. 14.ix.1960) is interesting in showing some subsessile leaves devoid of a winged petiole and some duplicates of this gathering are specimens flowering when entirely leafless and these are ± indistinguishable from Droogmansia tenuis Schubert and D. longirhachis Schubert, both belonging to the group having leafy and flowering shoots separate. Studies of the habit in the field and its variation with climatic conditions are necessary. Fanshawe 1406 (Zambia W: Luanshya, fl. 29.vii.1954) and Fanshawe 1530 (Zambia W: Mufulira, fl. 7.ix.1954) are of small stature, 9–24 cm and Fanshawe 1530 at least seems to be identical with D. munamensis De Wild. One syntype of D. pteropus is scarcely 30 cm and I doubt if this small variant should be distinguished.
