Information
Leaves with 4-15 pairs of pinnae, the pinnae themselves 6·5-15 cm. long; leaflets in 9-28 pairs, mostly 12-22 x 4-8 mm.
Habitat
In woodland of various types (Colophospermum mopane, Sclerocarya, Albizia amara, Acacia nigrescens, Combretum elaeagnoides, Commiphora mossambicensis, Brachystegia boehmii, Diospyros kirkii etc., Julbernardia globiflora)

Zimbabwe C Gatooma, st. iv.1926, Eyles 5429 (SRGH).Zimbabwe W Plumtree, fr. xii.1954, Meara 102 (SRGH).Zambia S Mazabuka Distr., Mochipapa to Sinazongwe, 2.iii.1960, White 7562 (FHO).
Notes
The evidence at present available suggests that E. goetzei is the only shrubby species which frequently produces its flowers when the plant is leafless. For further comments see note under E. suffruticosa below.It is possible that E. petersiana Bolle in Peters, Reise Mossamb. Bot, 1: 9 (1861) is a synonym. If this were to be confirmed, then E. petersiana would be the correct name for the species. The type (Mozambique, Sena, Peters (B, holotype †)) is now destroyed and the description is too imperfect for a certain identification.
