The above specimen is the only one recorded for the African mainland; but it agrees very well with material from Ceylon and S. India apart from having more flowers on an average in each cyme. P. pachyphloea Tul. from Mauritius and (?) Madagascar is very closely allied to P. opposita but has smaller globose fruits.
