Habitat
High rainfall deciduous woodland, submontane evergreen forests, gully forests and riverine forest, moist tall grassland; usually in shade of dense vegetation, often on termite hills

Notes
The specimens from N. Zambia differ somewhat from the rest of the material of this species in having several rather thick, erect stems from a large rootstock. This form seems to occur in Brachystegia woodland, but is not sufficiently distinct to merit formal taxonomic recognition. Similar erect woodland forms occur in Ethiopia and Somalia.
