A bushy shrub, up to 15 ft. high, with sweetly scented flowers abundant on short lateral shoots usually appearing before the leaves; calyx pink; corolla-tube pink and white, lobes white within and half pink and half white outside; in savanna.

[Experimental field studies are needed to determine how far the variation in length of pedicel is significant taxonomically. Specimens with long pedicels have been named F. canthioides and are commoner in western than in eastern Africa, but there are many intermediates. It would appear that when the flowers first appear on leafless shoots the pedicels are very short, but as flowering continues in the rainy season they are then much longer].
