Notes
T. Anderson (l.c.) cites “Ruellia longifolia P.Beauv. in Fl. Owar. 1: 45” as basionym for his Whitfieldia longifolia. But there is no such name in Flora Owariensis. He cites Ruellia elongata as a synonym, but with R. longifolia P.Beauv. being a fictitious name this is the correct name. Cultivated and possibly naturalized in the grounds of the National Museum, Nairobi, e.g. Mwangangi 1836! It has also (pers. obs.) become naturalized in hedges at Makerere University, Uganda.
