Notes
I hinted in B.J.B.B. 23: 57 (1953) that I thought Bremekamp had applied the name P. silvatica strictly to the East Usambara plant in error; on geographical grounds it is clearly to be referred to the West Usambara plant, i.e. what Bremekamp called P. parviflora and I called P. procurrens. K. Schumann’s description is short but his mention of petiole to 0.8 cm. is clearly in agreement with this. Bremekamp’s selection of Buchwald 632, the Kew sheet of which approaches the East Usambara subspecies, but the British Museum sheet of which has small leaf-blades 2.5 × 1.2 cm., as neotype is best set aside; unfortunately this specimen is unlocalised. There is a good deal of overlap between the populations concerned and subspecific status seems appropriate.
