Shrub or small tree up to 7.5 m. tall; lateral nerves 15–26 pairs; panicles 10–25 cm. long, with glabrous or finely tomentose branches; calyx glabrous or finely tomentose. limb 0.5–1.75 mm. long; corolla 2.5–3.5 mm. long; drupes subglobose, ± 5 mm. in diameter.

Notes
A fairly well-defined variety distinguishable by the fine tomentose indumentum on the inflorescences. Unfortunately the name platyphylla is not available in Psychotria for use to cover this species as a whole because of a prior P. platyphylla DC.
