Information
Scandent shrub, up to 6 m. tall; branches slender, tips pubescent, glabrous below. Leaf-blades ovate to lanceolate, apex acutely acuminate, base broadly cuneate, truncate or cordate, thinly coriaceous, reddish when young, sparsely pubescent on the midrib beneath, otherwise glabrous, rather irregularly crenate-serrate, the teeth minutely red-glandular, 2–5.5 cm. long, 1.8–3 cm. broad; lateral nerves ± 7 pairs, prominent beneath, venation densely reticulate, markedly raised beneath; petiole 2–5 mm. long; stipules foliaceous, deltoid, apex acuminate, base truncate or slightly auriculate, glandular-serrate, up to 3 × 2 mm. Flowers in axillary pedunculate few-flowered cymes; peduncle slender, glabrous, or pubescent near the base, up to 2 cm. long; secondary branches short; pedicels 3–5 mm. long; bracts minute, ovate. Receptacle glabrous, ± 2 mm. Sepals deltoid-ovate, ciliolate, ± 2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. broad. Petals broadly ovate, ciliolate, white, 1.5–2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. broad. Stamens 1 mm. long; anthers apiculate. Disk cupular, ± adnate to the receptacle, obscurely pentagonal. Ovary ovoid, glabrous. Fruit pendulous, ellipsoid-ovoid, somewhat fleshy, ± 8 mm. long, 6 mm. across. Seeds 1–4, ellipsoid to plano-convex, ± 5 mm. long, 3 mm. broad; testa golden brown. Fig. 13.
