Information
Woody herb or shrub to 3 m or semi-scandent to 6 m; stems leafy, long and whippy, sometimes tinged purplish or red, pubescent or thinly arachnoid, glabrescent. Leaves petiolate, leathery, lanceolate, ovate or oblong, 3–16.5 cm long, 1–6 cm wide, base cuneate, rounded, truncate or weakly cordate, margins finely to coarsely sinuate-serrate, dentate or bidentate, apex obtuse to acute, glabrous to pubescent especially on veins beneath, glabrous above except for midrib and sometimes the main veins; somewhat marcescent when old; petiole sparsely pubescent or arachnoid above to glabrous, 0.2–3 cm long, very narrowly winged, exauriculate or with coarsely dentate stipuliform auricles at the base. Capitula radiate, numerous in copious congested to lax spreading terminal compound corymbs; stalk of individual heads pubescent or arachnoid; involucre 3–5 mm long, 1.7–2.5 mm in diameter; bracts of calyculus 3–6, 1–3 mm long, arachnoid or pubescent at least on margins at apex; phyllaries 7–8, green with brown tips, 2.5–5 mm long, glabrous or pilose or arachnoid. Ray florets 5–8, corolla tube 2.5–3 mm long, hairy at apex or glabrous, rays pale to bright yellow, 3–5 mm long, 1–2.2 mm wide, 4-veined, spreading; disc florets yellow turning red-brown, corolla 4–6 mm long, tube expanded above the middle, glabrous, lobes 0.5–0.7 mm long. Achenes ribbed, 1.5–2 mm long, glabrous; pappus 3.5–6 mm long.
