Shrub 1–4(–8) m high; wood soft, pale yellow; bark rough, brown, with pale lenticels, red inside; branchlets yellow to dark brown, glabrous. Leaves petiolate; blade obovate, 2.4–25 cm long, 1.1–11 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous; petiole 0.5–9 mm long, glabrous. Inflorescence 7–15 mm long, glabrous in all parts; peduncle up to 3 mm long, glabrous; bracts narrowly oblong, 3–5 mm long, acute, glabrous; pedicels 2–3 mm long. Flowers fragrant; sepals elliptic, 3.1–6 mm long, 1.5–3.9 mm wide, acute or acuminate, glabrous, with 5–10 colleters near the base; corolla white or pale yellow, 6.5–9.5 mm long; tube yellow, cylindrical or urceolate, 4–5.2 mm long, glabrous outside, pilose inside around the anthers; lobes creamy to yellow, spreading, obliquely obovate to nearly hook-shaped, 2.5–4 mm long, 2–4 mm wide, glabrous; pistil 2.5–5 mm long; ovules 8–15 in each carpel; style 1–3 mm long, glabrous. Fruit yellow to orange, 7–15 mm long, 5–10 mm in diameter, dehiscent, glabrous; pericarp thinly coriaceous, irregularly striate, grooved when dry; seeds dark brown, obliquely ellipsoid, 5–6 mm long, with a deep groove at the middle of the hilar side.
