The protologue cites the specimen Schimper 267; I believe this is a typographical error. The type is Schimper 265 from Mts Kubbi.The other variety, var. foliosa (S. Moore) Kroner occurs in Malawi and Zimbabwe; its leaves are much larger than in the typical variety.
