Information
Herb; stems glabrous. Leaves sessile, narrowly oblong, 4–7 cm long, 0.6–1.2 cm wide, rounded at the base, serrate, acuminate, strongly veined, glabrous. Capitula sessile in clusters of up to 5 in the axils of the upper leaves; involucre 9–12 mm long; phyllaries 5-seriate, lanceolate, 3–8.5 mm long, acuminate, pungent, especially the outer white floccose-tomentose, glabrescent. Corolla purple, 9 mm long, lobes 3 mm long, with a few ascending stiff hairs below the apex. Achenes subcylindric, 3–4 mm long, 6–10-ribbed, ascending-pubescent; outer pappus of narrow scales 1–1.8 mm long, inner pappus tawny, of shortly barbellate setae, 6–8.2 mm long. Fig. 47.
