Indumentum greyish. Leaf-bases cuneate. Pedicels 4–14 mm. long. Stamens 5–8. Gynophore 3–5 mm. long, generally glabrous.

C. brachyandra is an extremely densely pubescent plant, which appears to be a form of this variety, having densely reddish-brown pubescent, leafless, somewhat elongate flowering shoots. It may well represent a hybrid between this variety and var. scheffleri. It has not been recollected in recent times.
