Information
Climber or trailer to 5 m.; stems herbaceous, subglabrous. Leaf-blade dark green, broadly ovate, ovate, triangular or triangular-subhastate in outline, cordate or subtruncate at the base, rather coarsely and remotely or rather closely sinuate-toothed, glabrous or slightly hairy on the nerves beneath, 76–160 mm. long, 52–200 mm. broad, unlobed or ± deeply palmately 3–5-lobed, the lobes broadest or distinctly narrowed at the base; petiole ± shortly hairy, 10–110 mm. long. Tendrils bifid. Probracts small, fleshy, ± 6 mm. long and 4 mm. broad. Male flowers in short dense 3–25-flowered racemes carried on 10–14 mm. long peduncles; receptacle-tube ± 16 mm. long, tubular below, expanded above; lobes triangular, ± 3 mm. long; corolla dull yellow-orange, the lobes ± 20 mm. long, united in lower three-fifths; stamens 3. Female flowers in stout 10–70 mm. long 2–25-flowered racemes, the rhachis and bracts becoming thickened in fruit; peduncle 3–10 mm. long; pedicels 1.5–7 mm. long; ovary cylindrical, 12–12.5 mm. long, 2–2.5 mm. across; receptacle-tube campanulate, 3–3.5 mm. long; lobes filiform, 2 mm. long; corolla-lobes ± 14 mm. long, united in lower three-fifths. Fruit ovoid, 22–34 mm. long, 15–24 mm. across. Seeds 5 × 2.5 × 1 mm.
