Information
Sepals sparsely pilose; corolla white with purple centre. Fig. 21, p. 93.
Altitude range
270–1140 m.
Distribution
KENYA Northern Frontier Province , Dandu, 6 May 1952, Gillett 13074! ;KENYA Kitui District without locality, Feb. 1960, Ossent in E.A.H. 11834! & Kitui, 5 May 1960, Napper 1592 !TANGANYIKA Shinyanga, Apr. 1932, Bax 279 !
Notes
Subsp. plebeia, which occurs in Australia and Malaysia, has the sepals laxly pubescent with distinctly more indumentum than in subsp. africana; subsp. indica Verdc. has narrower more acuminate sepals and occurs in India. The species probably also occurs in South America but more collections are necessary to elucidate the inter-relations of the infraspecific taxa of this presumably ancient species. There is a possibility that the correct name for this species should be I. biflora (L.) Pers. but the identity of Convolvulus biflorus L. is dubious.
