Information
Twining perennial; stems long, covered with rather bristly hairs. Leaf-blade ovate in outline, up to 7.5(–10) cm. long and 6.5(–8.7) cm. wide, 3-lobed, cordate at the base; central lobes ovate, acuminate, slightly narrowed at the base; lateral lobes ovate-rhomboid, blunt or acute; pilose on both surfaces or sometimes only on the nerves beneath; petiole up to 5.5 cm. long, hairy. Flowers in pedunculate few-flowered cymes; peduncle 0.1–5 cm. long; pedicels 4–9 mm. long, hairy. Sepals unequal, glabrous; the 3 outer ovate-lanceolate to ovate, acuminate, pilose on the back, 8–12 mm. long and 2–6 mm. wide; the 2 inner ovate, 6–8 mm. long, 4–7 mm. wide. Corolla 1.6–1.8 cm. long, white, yellow, pale orange or greenish-striped. Fruit fleshy, globose or rather square in outline, somewhat depressed, glabrous, green with a pinkish tinge, up to 1.4 cm. long and 2.2 cm. wide, probably usually indehiscent but perhaps eventually 2-valved (?); fruiting calyx-lobes 11–12 mm. long, 6.5–9 mm. wide; fruiting pedicels 8–11 mm. long. Seeds brown, subtrigonous-ovoid, granulated and sparsely covered with very short scaly hairs, 8 mm. long and 6 mm. wide. Fig. 17, p. 66.
