Information
Shrub up to 3 m. tall (60 cm. in Kenya) with slender silvery branches covered with very closely adpressed hairs. Leaves rather small, fascicled on cushion shoots; blade obovate-oblong, 17.5 mm. long, 7 mm. wide, obtuse or emarginate at the apex, densely covered with silvery adpressed medifixed hairs; petiole 1.5 mm. long. Flowers 5-merous, ± silky pilose, 1–few per cushion shoot. Male flowers with subequal sepals, these ovate, subobtuse, about 2 mm. long, silvery. Corolla about 7 mm. long; lobes ovate, very obtuse. Female flowers with spathulate sepals, the apical part of these orbicular or almost reniform, 5 mm. long, 6 mm. wide, very obtuse or slightly emarginate; claw 2.5 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, convex so that the base of the calyx is urceolate due to overlapping claws. Corolla yellowish, 5 mm. long, narrower than that of the male; lobes narrow, 2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, rather acute. Filaments 3 mm. long, lacking anthers. Styles 2.3 mm. long; stigma U-shaped, 1.5 mm. long and lobulate; ovary 3 mm. tall, slightly pilose. Fig. 6.
