Notes
A. platystigma Rothm. (in F.R. 42: 125 (1937)) (syn. A. mildbraedii Engl. var. mauensis Hauman & Balle in Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr. 24: 346 (1934)) has been sunk by Balle into synonymy with A. cryptantha. It is based on the extremely poor holotype (Kenya, Mau riverside, Scott Elliot 6855 (K!)) and although this treatment may be right (so far as can be seen, the epicalyx appears to exceed the calyx-lobes), the specimen is really too inadequate for any degree of certainty as to its characters.
