ANEILEMA lanceolatum C. B. Clarke Var. β evolutior [family COMMELINACEAE], in DC. Monogr. Phan. iii. 227 partly.
Information
Stems stout. Leaves up to 10 by 1/2 in., linear or scarcely linear-lanceolate, very hairy or with sparse long hairs. Panicle 4 in. long, 2 in. wide at the base, 1 in. wide at the top; branches very numerous, lower in false whorls. Lower part of cymes represented often by numerous approximate empty bracts 1/10 in. long. Flowers and capsules as of lanceolatum, but slightly larger.
Distribution
Lagos Upper Guinea Eruwa, Rowland!Niger Upper Guinea Nupe, Barter, 1018! 1117!
Notes
The base of the stem and roots are not shown: it seems probable that the stem may be erect, with thickened roots; and, if so, near Welwitschii. It, however, recalls A. lanceolatum, Benth., by the very long narrow leaves.
