Information
Woody shrublet, 0.1–1 m tall, sometimes scandent and up to 2 m, all parts puberulous. Leaves oblanceolate, 5–22(–30) x 2–8.5 mm, cuneate at the base, rounded to emarginate at the apex. Racemes lateral, sometimes spine-tipped, up to 2 cm long, sometimes solitary flowers also; bracts usually persistent; pedicels slender, 3–10 mm long. Outer sepals 2.5–6 mm long, free; wings accrescent, 6–14 x 4–11.5 mm, at anthesis pink to bright yellow, becoming pale brown, pubescent or ciliate. Petals purple, the upper three quarters as long as wings; keel slightly shorter than wings, with a fringed appendage at the tip. Capsule elliptic to broadly oblong, 5–8 x 3.5–6 mm, pubescent or ciliate. Seeds 4.5–5.5 x 2.5–3 mm, with short hairs; caruncle c. 0.8 x 0.8 mm, with 2 lateral appendages just shorter than the seed.

Notes
P. obtusissima has often been included in P. senensis, but in Somalia they are easily separated, P. obtusissima having woody stems and shorter racemes. P. calcicola in N Somalia is a cushion-forming shrublet with small leaves, somewhat spine-tipped branches and often pink wings. It intergrades with P. obtusissima.
