Scharff has collected a large number of rare and choice plants on his estate in Southern California. He has a good collection of Eucalyptus, but has not been able to secure a plant of Eucalyptus macrocarpa, of which Nicholson possess over a dozen. Scharff is willing to send any seeds or plants indigenous to California in exchange for some E. macrocarpa.
