Under the direction of the Administrator of the colony, Powell is including a fibre sample from a plant believed to be Furcraea cubensis. However, to confirm its identity, Powell has also included a leaf from the plant and hopes RBG Kew can determine it for him. The samples are taken from a specimen that was planted in Nov 1890. The species is grown in quantity alongside the road that leads up to the fort in the colony. Powell acknowledges Morris's last letter and his advice to plant peppers in the jungle; he is hoping to carry out these suggestions as soon as possible.
