Greig writes to thank his correspondent and Mr Rolfe and Mr Duthie for all the trouble they have taken in trying to identify the orchid [see letters folios 159/127 - 129]. He can quite conceive that Mr Rolfe could not arrive at any other conclusion than that he misremembered the colours. However, he feels certain some day or other it will be found as he described it. He has received a packet of ginseng from Paris and encloses a few [seeds] in case his correspondent would like to experiment with them. He has sown some in boxes under a north wall and some in a beech wood, all in leaf mould. He is also growing the Uruguay potato, Solanum commersonii, to cross with his seedlings by grafts on tubers. If of any interest he will send a plant next year. Greig concludes by noting that he saw a sketch of a Cypripedium probably C. cordigerum in a book one of his brothers picked on Bir[?] Ringal and it was very like his specimen except in colour.
