Battiscombe's son, Chris, is going out to Singapore on 13 Dec to learn rubber growing. He asks if Prain would be good enough to give him an introduction to the Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Singapore. According to the guidebook, this is Mr Ridley. Chris is going with a friend, Mr Whitehead, to the Bukit Sambawang [Sembawang] Estate about 12 miles from Singapore Town. The company is the British North Borneo Rubber Trust and as far as Battiscombe can learn, is a thoroughly sound one. The plantation is about six years old and is increasing rapidly. Battiscombe is most anxious that Chris should get in with the 'best society' he can and an introduction from Prain will be of immense assistance. They are feeling very sad at parting with him, but also feel it is a most favourable opportunity and going with an old friend makes all the difference. Battiscombe is going to write to Rathay[?] to ask him to give him a letter of introduction to his brother out there as a medical man, unless Prain knows of anyone else. Pages 1 and 3 of 3.
