Description
The screw steamer 'Lotus' is conveying a case of mangosteen plants for RBG Kew. The Captain, Captain Castle, is not charging anything for freight. McNair would like Hooker to return the case containing varieties of geraniums and roses, he would also like flower and vegetable seeds. The gardens are at long last to get a man from England as Superintendent; McNair believes Hooker is helping with this. A very charming young Lady named Shelfin[?] is currently at Singapore, McNair believes the Hooker family know her. McNair adds that Dr Waring has lost his wife. Annotated. Page 1 of 4.
