Some time ago, Hooker was good enough to offer Swinhoe some flower seeds for the garden in Shanghai. His brother, who is presently there, has the laying out of a public gardens in the Race Course ground and has written to Swinhoe for some seeds of different kinds of trees and creepers suitable for the purpose. Hooker has had much experience in this and, if he could spare a few seeds from RBG Kew, they would be a great boon. If not, Swinhoe would be thankful for a list of things that would be likely to succeed so that he may purchase seed from one of the nursery-men in London. He must get Hooker into correspondence with his brother, John, out in Shanghai as he will likely be of use in China.
