Schizostylis coccinea Backh. and Harvey published illustration from Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Uncoloured lithograph. The specimen here figured was sent to Kew by Messrs Backhouse and Son, from their nursery at York, in November 1863, with the information that it inhabits eastern rivers of South Africa, called Kabousie and Keir-kamma, in Kaffirland. In addition Dr Harvey possessed specimens, gathered by Cooper, near Drackensberg Mountain; and also from Mr D'Urban, who found it by the Kabousie river, in both cases growing very near water.
