Mann writes that he has received letters from July and August from his correspondent at Kew, from these letters Mann learned that he was appointed by the Admiralty to continue his West African botanical collecting and studying. He had heard from the Foreign Office regarding his work for the Nigeria Expedition, and had written to Commodore Edmonstone for further instructions. He writes that he will wait at Fernando Po, and that if no orders are received he will proceed to Cameroon and make inquires after timber and other wood specimens. However before this time he will look for an opportunity to go to Amlas Bay [Syria] and the mountain. He discusses collecting timber specimens and how he will spend his time during the dry season. Mann writes that he plans to go on the Bagroo River, the missionaries from Amlas Bay are visiting him due to Mr. Dormot, and that he will send his collection before he leaves Fernando Po. He refers to a letter from his correspondent referring to a fern that was named after him, and asks for the journal of the proceedings of the Linnaean Society.
