Information
Tufted perennial, the basal sheaths pubescent to tomentose. Culms 30–100 cm. high. Inflorescence of (2)3–8(10) racemes, each 3–16 cm. long. Spikelets 2.5–3.5 mm. long, narrowly lanceolate. Superior glume 0.1–0.5 mm. long, obtuse to acute. Inferior lemma entire, the awn 5–20 mm. long, rarely shorter on some of the spikelets. Superior floret dark brown.
Habitat
Open places in savanna woodland, the habitats ranging from drainage hollows to stony slopes
