Information
Densely tufted perennial. Culms 20–100 cm. high. Leaf laminae 2–6 mm. wide, flat or some of them convolute. Inflorescence of (1)2–5 racemes, these 1–5 cm. long, bearing spikelets singly on a triquetrous rhachisc. 0.5 mm. wide (sometimes narrowly winged), its margins sparsely ciliate with white or yellow hairs up to 2 mm. long. Spikelets 3–4(4.5) mm. long, pubescent, subacute. Inferior glume 2/3 to almost as long as spikelet, 5–11-nerved. Superior lemma obscurely rugulose.

Notes
Forms with a narrowly winged, but usually ± wavy, raceme rhachis closely approach B. jubata. Sometimes most of the leaves are convolute, and they are then easily mistaken for the subterete laminae of B. subulifolia.
