Stout rhizomatous perennial up to 120 cm tall; leaf laminas 5–30 cm × 1–2 mm, tightly folded or involute.Raceme 3–7 cm long, erect, usually curved.Spikelets 6.8–7 mm long; glumes glabrous, the inferior c. 4 mm long, the superior as long as the spikelet; fertile lemma almost as long as the spikelet, pilose on the keel and lateral nerves; 2nd lemma 4.5–5 mm long; 3rd lemma greatly reduced.
