Shrub or tree 1–4(8) m. high. Bark rough, brown, with pale lenticels, inside red; wood soft, pale yellow. Branches yellow to dark brown, lenticellate; branchlets often sulcate when dry, glabrous. Leaves petiolate; petiole 0·5–9 mm. long, glabrous; lamina 1·1–4·4 times as long as wide, 2·4–25 x 1·1–11 cm., acuminate, sub-coriaceous when dry, glabrous on both sides; secondary veins conspicuous. Inflorescences 7–15 x 12–18 mm. Bracts narrowly oblong, 3–5 mm. long, acute, glabrous on both sides. Peduncle very short, up to 3 mm. long, glabrous; pedicels 2–3 mm. long, glabrous. Flowers fragrant. Sepals free, subequal, entire, imbricate, elliptic, acute or acuminate, 1·2–3·3 times as long as wide, 3·1–6 x 1·5–3·9 mm., outside glabrous, inside with 5–10 colleters, 0–2 near the base at the edges of each sepal. Corolla 1·3–4·7 times as long as the calyx, 6·5–9·5 mm. long, hypocrateriform; tube cylindrical or urceolate, 0·8–3·3 times as long as the calyx, 4–5·2 mm. long and 1·8–2·5 mm. in diam., glabrous outside, inside around the anthers with a small pilose zone and futhermore glabrous; lobes 0·4–0·8 times as long as the tube, obliquely obovate to nearly hook-shaped, curved to the right, 2·5–4 x 2–4 mm., entire, glabrous on both sides. Stamens inserted 1·5–3 mm. below the mouth of the corolla; anthers 2·1–2·7 x 0·8–1 mm. Pistil 2·5–5 mm. long; ovary 0·8–1·3 x 1–1·2 x 0·5–1·5 mm., glabrous or with a few papils; style 1–3 x 0–2 mm., glabrous; clavuncula 0·4–0·9 x 0·3–0·6 mm.; stigma c. 0·2 mm. long; ovules 8–15 in each. Fruits yellow to orange; carpels ellipsoid, laterally compressed 7–15 x 5–10 x 3–5 mm., dehiscent along an adaxial line of dehiscence; wall glabrous. Seeds dark brown;
