Shrub ?sometimes scandent, or small tree 2–6 m tall; young branches sparsely pubescent to pubescent; bark reddish or pale grey when older.Leaves paired at apex of main branches or brachyblasts, often giving impression of 4 per node due to extreme reduction of branches, mature or sometimes not fully mature at time of flowering; blades 2.5–7.5 × 1–5 cm, elliptic to broadly elliptic, acute to subacuminate at apex, acute to cuneate at base, papery or chartaceous when mature, glabrous or sometimes ciliate above, with glabrous to pubescent (rather prickle-like hairs) on nerves beneath; lateral nerves in 3–4 main pairs; tertiary nerves obscure or apparent, rather coarsely reticulate; domatia conspicuous; petioles 1–9 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent to pubescent beneath; stipules with a filiform to subulate lobe present at apical node, later with triangular base 2–3 mm long which becomes corky and soon breaks down to reveal tufts of rust-coloured hair within.Flowers (4)5-merous, in small 1–6(10)-flowered shortly pedunculate cymes; peduncles 0.5–3 mm long; pedicels 1–5 mm long, glabrous or with a line of short hairs on either side; bracteoles inconspicuous.Calyx tube 1–2 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent; limb reduced to a truncate or repand rim sometimes shortly dentate or with unequal linear lobes up to 1 mm long.Corolla yellow or creamy-green; tube 1 mm long, densely but finely pubescent at throat; lobes 1.5–2.25 × 1–1.75 mm, ovate or ovate-triangular at base, acute.Pollen presenter ± spherical, c. 1 mm in diameter, ribbed.Fruit ± oblong in lateral view, c. 10 × 9 mm, indented at apex; pedicel lengthening to 5–13 mm long.Pyrene 9 × 4 mm, narrowly oblong-ovoid, rugulose.
