Small to large evergreen tree 6–25 m. tall, much branched, with a dense rounded crown and often branched low down; stems glabrous. Leaf blades 7.8–22.6(25) x 3.5–15.2 cm., elliptic to oblong-ovate, rounded to subacute at the apex, rounded, truncate or broadly cuneate and often unequal-sided at the base, glabrous save for small tufts of hair in the nerve axils beneath; petiole (1)1.7–3 cm. long; stipules 3.6–6 x 0.5–2 cm., lanceolate, connate at the base and enclosing the terminal bud, soon circumscissile and deciduous. Flowers heterostylous, in umbels of (1)2–7(9) capitula, the capitula 4–9 mm. in diam., 5–20-flowered; common peduncles 7–17.5 cm. long; secondary peduncles 0.8–4.5 cm. long, finely puberulous; many of the capitula bear a large coloured petiolate bract, greenish below, cream above with greenish yellow veins, produced on one of the lateral flowers, the lamina (3)6–11.2 x 1.5–5.8 cm., the petiole 0.6–2 cm. long. Calyx cupular, c. 2 mm. tall, of which 1 mm. is a free truncate rim. Corolla cream to yellow, the tube mostly greenish and the lobes bright yellow inside; tube 1.6–2.4 cm. long, widened at the apex, puberulous; lobes 3–7 x 1.2–4 mm., ovate-lanceolate, margined and with thickened apices, hairy inside particularly near throat with yellow hairs; throat densely hairy. Ovary 3–4-locular; style 1.2 or 2.4 cm. long according to form; stigma lobes 3.5–4.5 mm. long, at least exserted ones green. Syncarps c. 1.5 cm. in diam.; pyrenes 5 x 4.5 mm., broadly elliptic, much compressed. Immature seeds 3.5 x 2 mm., probably winged.
