Small shrub up to 1 m. tall; all parts except the corolla with a short dense velvety greyish-yellow indumentum; old stems becoming glabrous, with a brownish bark. Leaf-lamina 2–5 × 0·6–2·5 cm., narrowly oblong or narrowly elliptic, submucronate-obtuse at the apex, dentate or repand-dentate at the margin, widely cuneate at the base, with 13–15 pairs of rather inconspicuous nerves slightly impressed above and slightly raised below; petiole c. 1 cm. long; stipules 1–2 mm. long, subulate, caducous. Inflorescences of small 3–11-flowered cymes opposite the upper leaves or home some distance from the nodes; peduncles up to 1·5 cm. long; pedicels similar, up to 1·5 cm. long; bracts c. 2 mm. long, subulate. Sepals up to 10 × 2·5 mm., narrowly elliptic or very narrowly elliptic, somewhat keeled dorsally, caudate at the apex, velvety outside, glabrous within. Petals yellow, up to 10 × 3 mm., narrowly oblanceolate-oblong, with a small claw c. 1·2 mm. long at the base with its margins very shortly stellately pubescent. Androgynophore 0·5 mm. tall, with an annulus above. Stamens numerous, filiform. Ovary 3-locular, cylindric, shortly stellately villous; style c. 4 mm. long, glabrous. Capsule c. 3 cm. long, cylindric, not beaked, sometimes slightly torulose, greyish-or yellowish-velvety-tomentose with tufted longer stellate hairs scattered among the shorter indumentum. Seeds numerous, very dark brown, c. 2·5 × 1·2 mm., irregularly ellipsoid.
