Suffrutescent herb or subshrub, 0.3–0.7(–1) m tall; erect, with spreading and ascending branches; young stems cinereous, the hairs stellate with arms ± appressed and sometimes united at a yellow-brown base, glabrescent in age, older stems often reddish. Leaves broadly ovate to round, (1.9–)2.5–6.2 cm long, 1.6–5.7 cm wide, apex rounded to retuse to shortly acute, margin serrate to crenate, base shallowly cordate to truncate, discolorous, pale green to greyish above, paler below, both surfaces tomentose with whitish, stellate hairs with arms ± appressed and often united at a yellow-brown base; palmately 3–7(–9)-nerved from the base; petiole 1–4 cm long, cinereous; stipules filiform, 3–4(–7) mm long, caducous. Inflorescences 2–3-flowered axillary cymes or flowers solitary; peduncle 1.5–5.5 cm long, ± 0.5 mm wide, cinereous; pedicels 5–15 mm long, tomentose; epicalyx bracts lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 7–16(–20) mm long, 2.5–5(–7) mm wide, long acuminate, fused basally, reflexed early, tomentose without and within. Floral buds ovoid, the darkened sepal apices free. Sepals narrowly ovate, 6–15(–18) mm long, 2.5–5 mm wide, caudate, tomentose without, ± glabrous within. Petals broadly obovate, asymmetrical, 8–19 mm long, 6–11.5 mm wide, bright (deep or golden) yellow, glabrous. Staminal tube 1.5–2 mm long, free portion of filaments 1.5–3 mm long, anthers (2–)3–4 mm long, free portion of staminodes 7.5–9 mm long, glabrous. Ovary globose-depressed, ± 4 mm long, 4 mm in diameter, tomentose; 4–6 ovules per locule; style 5–6 mm long, glabrous; stigma lobes 2–3 mm long, recurved. Capsules ellipsoid to almost cylindrical, apically narrowed and ± flattened, 7–14 mm long, 7–12 mm in diameter, tomentose; 4–6 seeds per locule; seed ovoid, 1.5–2 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide, testa sparsely tuberculate to smooth, without an elaiosome.
