Terrestrial herb. Rhizoids and stolons capillary, numerous from the base of the scape. Leaves scattered on the stolons, often decayed at anthesis, obovate-spathulate to linear-oblanceolate, up to 3 cm. long, 0.5–2 mm. wide, 1-nerved. Traps numerous, ovoid, 0.4–0.8 mm. long, stalked; mouth terminal; upper lip projecting, fringed with ± 5 glandular hairs; lower lip with radiating rows of ± sessile glands. Inflorescence erect, simple or branched above, 4–50 cm. high; scape usually robust, straight or twining, smooth; inflorescence-axis usually flexuous; flowers 1–25 or more, usually distant; scales numerous, similar to the bracts; bracts basifixed, lanceolate to ovate, 0.6–1.6 mm. long; bracteoles lanceolate, ± as long as the bracts; pedicels up to 1 mm. long. Calyx-lobes subequal, orbicular, 1.5–2.5 mm. long, densely papillose, margin strongly recurved, apex tridenticulate. Corolla usually violet with a yellow blotch on the palate, sometimes wholly yellow, 5–15 mm. long; upper lip broadly ovate to orbicular, 2–4 times as long as the upper calyx-lobe, apex rounded, truncate or emarginate; lower lip orbicular, apex rounded, entire or obscurely 3-crenate; palate raised, usually distinctly 2-gibbous; spur subulate, acute, 1.5–2 times as long as the lower lip. Filaments filiform; anther-thecae subdistinct. Ovary globose; style obsolete; stigma lower lip semi-orbicular, upper much smaller, deltoid. Capsule globose, ± 1.5 mm. long, dehiscing by ab- and adaxial ovate-lanceolate pores. Seeds numerous, ovoid, angular, 0.25 mm. long; testa smooth, cells indistinct, ± isodiametric.
