Creeping perennial herb ± 50 cm. long, presumably from a woody rootstock. Stems pubescent all round when young but later only in two narrow longitudinal lines. Leaves 2-foliolate; leaflets subsessile, somewhat obliquely elliptic, not at all obcordate, 1.6–3 cm. long, 0.8–1.6 cm. wide, very rounded at the apex, obliquely rounded at the base, glabrous or almost so, entire; midrib dividing the leaflet into parts the smaller of which is two-thirds the width of the larger, the latter with 3 radiating basal nerves; petiole 0.7–1.3 cm. long; stipules elliptic, 1–2.1 cm. long, 6–8 mm. wide, bluntly acute at the apex, unequally auriculate at the base, leafy, entire, glabrous, persistent. Inflorescences axillary, sometimes appearing compound on leafless but stipulate branchlets, ± 15-flowered; rhachis 2–3 cm. long; peduncle 0.5–1.5 cm. long; pedicels 3 mm. long; bracts brown, often drying a bright reddish-purple, 0.7–1.4 cm. long, 0.8–1.5 cm. wide, split for about one-quarter to one-half of their length into 2 acute lobes, glabrous, mostly conspicuously ciliate-denticulate; bracteoles lanceolate, 2.5 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, entire, glabrous. Calyx 8 mm. long, glabrous. Standard orange or yellow, panduriform, apical part of limb broadly rounded, lower part rectangular, 1 cm. long, 8.5 mm. wide. Pods not seen.
